Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Backs Medical Marijuana Legalization

Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos says he wants to see medical marijuana legalized in the state by this fall. Provisions to legalize both medical and recreational marijuana were included in Governor Tony Evers’ budget, but Republican lawmakers stripped those provisions. Republicans believe that the provisions in the budget were more about decriminalization.

Vos wants to discuss medical marijuana legalization this fall and says he’s been open to it for several years, according to Journal Sentinel. His path to push for legalization is unclear. He’s only stated that he supports medical marijuana use and wants to have discussions with his caucus.

Pushback is expected from Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald who opposes medical marijuana.
